Mark the section.
Get to the edit.
A local browser tool for isolating limited character sections with straight cuts and exporting a lightweight STL derivative.
Extract only the section Bill needs.
Open the assigned review model, set two straight cut planes, choose the retained section, then export a smaller mesh for SolidWorks reference or downstream editing.
Choose Bill’s assigned review file to begin. The original is never modified.
Choose only the working region.
Set the axis and move the two planes to bracket the character detail Bill needs.
Preview what stays.
Review the retained geometry and its bounds before creating a derivative.
Use a smaller mesh.
Download the section as STL with the source name and cut span in the filename. Keep the original STEP and scan unchanged.
A smaller working region, with honest file labels.
STEP imports are tessellated for this browser preview. A section export is therefore a triangle mesh that can be used as reference geometry or continued in a mesh workflow. It does not preserve the source STEP’s CAD features, assembly mates or design history.
- The selected source file is read locally in the browser.
- Two axis-aligned planes define the retained section.
- The STL keeps only triangles inside the selected limits.
- Cut boundaries are open and need separate CAD or mesh work if a closed solid is required.
- Every download is a new derivative; no source file is overwritten.
The local section tool does not submit jobs or claim a validated CAD solid.
